Gov. Pat Quinn Talks Comprehensive Energy Plan Proposal, How He Opposes HB14, and What’s Good with Sears

Gov. Pat Quinn announced this morning a comprehensive energy plan proposal that will protect consumers by stabilizing their energy bills.

The Governor argued that Illinois residents can’t have a big company like ComEd overlooking the state’s energy system.

The comprehensive energy plan proposal will modernize the electric grid and electric infrastructure, but will do so in a way to benefit Illinois consumers. The plan will also help create thousands of jobs, and will move the state towards a clean, renewable, and reliable energy system.

“This will help get us to the green future,” said Gov. Quinn.

Gov. Pat Quinn Announces Motorola Mobility Coprorate Headquarters in Illinois

Gov. Pat Quinn and Motorola Mobility Chairman and CEO Dr. Sanjay Jha announced this morning that the company’s corporate headquarter will be located in Libertyville, a northwest suburb in Illinois.

Despite the deficit problem in Illinois, the state is providing a business investment package deal with Motorola to assist them in leveraging their private investments and to help keep 3,000 jobs in Illinois.

Dr. Sanjay Jha, Chairman and CEO of Motorola Mobility says that the company is committed to spend $500+ million in research and development related to Motorola jobs over the next three years.

Mayor Richard M. Daley Presides Over His Last City Council Meeting, Ever

Come May 16th, Richard M. Daley will no longer be the Mayor of the City of Chicago. His 22 years service as the longest-serving city Mayor comes to an end when mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel takes office.

Mayor Daley arrived an hour early to City Hall to mingle with City Council members over morning breakfast. The Mayor also took some time for pictures and to sign autographs for outsiders.

In the meeting, a resolution was adopted by the City Council to congratulate and honor Mayor Daley for his service to the city of Chicago.  Only 45 City Alderman were present for Mayor Daley’s last meeting.

Mayor-Elect Rahm Emanuel Name Garry McCarthy as The New Chicago Police Superintendent

Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel named Garry McCarthy as the new Chicago Police Department Superintendent.

McCarthy stood next to Emanuel as he made the announcement this morning at the Office of Emergency Management & Communications.

McCarthy brings with him 30 years of experience in policing. He is currently the Police Director of the Newark Police Department, where he worked to reduce the number of crimes, shooting incidents and murder, and even reduced the number of civilian complaints against the department.

  • 12% reduction in overall crime.
  • 40% reduction in shooting incidents and murder.
  • 23%reduction in civilian compliments.

“His experience will bring new ideas and strategies,” Emanuel said of McCarthy.

Mayor-Elect Rahm Emanuel Announces City Colleges of Chicago Board

Yesterday afternoon, mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel sat with a small group of students at Olive-Harvey College, one of the seven accredited two-year colleges in Chicago to stress the importance of education. The group of students were able to ask the soon-to- be-mayor questions about his game changing plans for the City Colleges of Chicago.

The former White House Chief of Staff also announced members for the City Colleges of Chicago board. The diverse group is made up of individuals from different areas of work, from non-profit to business to legality to religious work.

Emanuel also wants to continue with Reinvention of the City Colleges of Chicago, a plan introduced by the board last year to strengthen the city college system.
